Join artist Melora Kuhn for a window into her creative process in this hands on making workshop held at her studio in Germantown NY. Historically artists are recognized in a dominant discipline, while oftentimes exploring a plethora of other forms and creations in the studio. Melora is no exception. Melora is is widely known as an accomplished painter of exquisite oil paintings. Drawing from American history, fairy tales and mythology, Kuhn takes specific images and alters them accordingly, in an effort to examine patterns of thinking and ways of being. Her interest lies in what is left out or forgotten, in the deterioration of a solid form or known history, in something that appears to be one thing, but is quite another.
AND! Melora has begun experimenting with creating hand-built molds and making cement vases and planters. While these forms do not visually resemble her well crafted oil paintings, the sensibility of collaging pieces from destruction are a clear continuation of her artistic research.
She is inviting up to ten participants to learn the art of creating hand built vases made with cement. Together we will each make our own mold, learn the proper methods of mixing cement and will conclude in making our own vase. The workshop is a whole day event and includes a light farm-to-table picnic lunch. Participants will be asked to return the following day to pick up their planters after they have finished drying.
This is a very special learning experience. Reserve your spot now.
